Description

After Major Cockburn - Original 19th Century Graphite Drawing. Entrance to Valley of The Grande Chartreuse, inscribed in pencil under the image, inscribed indistinctly to the lower right "Col... June 1825", with a blindstamp for Turnbull Superfine London Board to the lower right. A lithograph of Major Cockburn's original drawing of this subject was created by lithographer C. Hullmandel and published by Moncenisio - Savoia in 1822. This drawing holds very strong similarities to that lithograph, but the date 'June 1825' suggests this may be a copy by a follower of Major Cockburn. Inscribed and dated. Discolouration and foxing across the picture, age toning to edges,. A surface crack to the right hand edge, not affecting the main image.
