After John Frederick Herring Sr. - 1852 Mezzotint Inside The Barn
Description
A fine and very large mezzotint showing a man and a woman tending to animals in a farmyard barn. They are surrounded by horses, rabbits, chickens, ducks, a cat and a goat. This mezzotint is done after the original painting by the artist John Frederick Herring Senior.
The artist's name has been engraved at the bottom right corner with the date. There is an inscription underneath the mount reading "London published November 1st, 1859 by Goupil & Co. 17 Southampton St. Strand. 19 Boulevard Mon Marte."
The name of the engraver is unknown.
Sulis Fine Art has a second fine mezzotint scene by the same artist and engraver which is framed in an identical fashion and would make a fine pair. The product number for this is QB042.
The print is presented in a fine, glazed, original 19th Century frame with an off white card mount.
On wove.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is pale foxing across the surface and a vertical scratch in the lower left quadrant. The frame has losses along the upper and lower edge and all four corners.
