Description
A very charming and emotive Italian School oil after the original by the Italian artist Filippo Marantonio (1863-1937). An elderly couple are seated at a table, and the artist has depicted a farmer playfully teasing his wife, who is hard at work stitching a garment. In Marantonio's typical style, the composition focuses on the figures, both contented in a darkly lit relaxed atmosphere. Well-presented in a plain gilt effect wooden frame, as shown. Signed to the lower right. On canvas laid to board.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is some undulation to the canvas and small paint loss to the upper left quadrant.
