Painter and etcher born at Elland near Leeds who exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1910. He attended Westminster School of Art, Camberwell School of Arts & Crafts following earlier education in Birmingham and at St. Leonards-on-Sea. He worked in initially as a commercial artist and was a member of the Society of Graphic Artists and an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers. Whydale's work encompassed rural subjects in both oils and watercolours or as etchings. His fine depictions of cart horses and genre pictures as well as portraits were exhibited at the Connell and Sons, Fine Art Society, Grosvenor Gallery, Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, International Society of Sculptors, Painters & Gravers, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Manchester Academy of Fine Arts and at the Royal Scottish Academy. Royston & District Museum & Art Gallery hold a large number of his paintings and there is also representation in the South London Art Gallery.
