A map of the London and Birmingham Railway and adjacent country. After an original drawing by the cartographer, draughtsman, and engineer Charles Frederick Cheffins (1807-1861). The 112-mile (180 km) railway line between London and Birmingham opened in 1838 and was the first intercity line to be built into London. It is now the southern section of the West Coast Main Line. First published by Wrightson and Webb in 1839. A hand-coloured impression of the same map is the Harvard Map Collection, Harvard University. Presented glazed in a thin gilt-effect wooden frame. Condition
There is discolouration, some marks, and multiple creases and closed tears to the substrate. There is some debris trapped beneath the glazing. There are small dents to the edges of the frame.
