A fine mid-19th-century genre painting depicting a fisherman's family awaiting their loved one's return from sea. This work is a copy after Auguste Delacroix (1809-1868). Well presented in a swept gilt frame finished with shell and acanthus ornamentation. Signed 'F. Laurence' to the lower left and attributed to 'Delacroix'. Dated 1856. On canvas.Condition
The artwork exhibits signs of wear consistent with age. Fine craquelure is observed throughout the paint surface. Inspection under UV light reveals some previous restoration/overpainting. Light scuffs to the varnish layer causing some surface marking (upper third). Minor abrasions/paint loss to the lower edge. The frame has minor surface wear, including small chips and a loss to the upper right corner moulding. Overall, the artwork presents in good condition.
