A truly wonderful example of a 19th Century still life featuring the classic combination of game birds and luxurious fruits. The game birds are a white partridge, a pheasant, a pair of quails and a delicate little snipe. The fruit, some of which is tropical, shows wealth and splendor and the multitude of game shows a proficient shooter and a wealthy household. The artist has monogrammed and dated in an attractive manner in the lower right corner. The painting is presented in a contemporary gilt effect frame with naive, large foliate strapwork. The frame is finished with a cartridge mount and glazing. On watercolour paper.
Condition
The painting is in remarkable condition for its age, with no tears, discolouration or foxing. The frame is also in fine condition with some minor chipping to the lower left corner.
