Signed and dated. On paper.The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and foxing. The frame has some wear and marks but is in fine condition.

Painter and illustrator, born in Charlton, Kent, who studied at St. John's Wood School of Art, from 1912-14, and at the RCA, from 1919-20. During World War I Hill worked as an Official War Artist and his resulting works can be seen in the Imperial War Museum. Hill was a member of the New Autumn Group and exhibited at the RA, RBA, Royal Hibernian Academy, RI and with the NEAC and the London Group. Hill was elected to the RBA 1926, ROI, 1929, SGA, 1931, and held the position of President of the ROI, 1968.
His work is represented in several public collections, including Aberdeen Art Gallery, Bradford Museums and Galleries, Brighton and Hove Museums and Art Galleries, British Postal Museum, Derby Art Gallery, Gallery Oldham, Guernsey Museums and Galleries, Leicester Arts and Museums Service, Northampton Museum and Art Gallery, Victoria & Albert Museum and Worthing Museum and Art Gallery. Hill taught at Hornsey School of Art, wrote many art books on ‘how to’ and is widely remembered as a pioneer on 1950’s television in a programme called ‘Sketch Club’.
