Adolf Boch (1853-1919) - 1877 Oil Portrait of a Young Woman
Description
A refined 19th-century portrait of an elegant young woman, depicted in a formal half-length pose against a dark, atmospheric background. She wears a sombre black dress with an intricately detailed white lace collar, complemented by a distinctive pendant worn at her neck. The restrained palette and softly modelled lighting lend the portrait a quiet, dignified character, while the careful attention to the sitter's features captures her individuality and expression. A particularly attractive example of the formal portraiture of the period. Presented in a dark wooden frame with gilt detailing and decorative corner ornaments. Signed and dated 1877. This portrait forms part of a pair with a companion portrait of the sitter's husband, also available. SKU: TA343 On canvas on stretchers.Condition
Fine craquelure observed throughout. Minor surface marks and abrasions. A light, even patina of age is present across the surface of the artwork.
