Adam Barland - Framed Late 19th Century Oil Near Alford, Kent

Description

A fine pastoral landscape by Adam Barland (1843–1875) depicting a serene countryside scene near Alford, Kent. A farmhouse cottage nestles amongst mature trees beneath softly luminous skies. The composition employs classical techniques with warm, earthy tones and atmospheric perspective, drawing the viewer's eye down a farm track past figures and cattle. The painting is beautifully presented in a swept gilt frame with floral and acanthus ornamentation at the corners. Signed and dated '76 lower right. Original artist's label fixed verso. Acquired with a signed companion work (sz026). On canvas.

Condition

Fine craquelure observed in areas of the composition. A light, even patina of age is present across the surface of the artwork. Inspection under UV light reveals small areas of previous restoration. The canvas has been previously relined. The frame is in very good condition. Overall, the artwork is in very good condition.
