A charming watercolour painting with gouache details by the British artist Alexander Wellwood Rattray. The scene depicts a female figure holding a small basket, walking along a rural path. Artist Biography

Alexander Wellwood Rattray (1849-1902) was born and educated in Glasgow at the Glasgow University and Glasgow School of Art. As a landscape painter and watercolourist, Rattray mainly painted in the Highlands, the East coast of Scotland and in the Mull of Kintyre. During his time, he exhibited works at the Royal Academy, the Royal Institute, the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Watercolour Society, among other places. He was a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours, the New English Art Club, and an associate, in 1896, of the Royal Scottish Academy.
