Artist Biography
A. Victor Coverley-Price (1901-1988) was a painter and writer, as well as a professional diplomat for 20 years. Born in Winchester, Hampshire and educated at Harrow, he studied languages at Cambridge University. The name Coverley is not present on any of his birth records and may have been an affectation added by him some years later. Price made several study visits to Germany, where he developed his love of art by sketching and by visiting galleries and museums. In 1946, he retired from the Diplomatic Service to concentrate on painting and writing. He exhibited in 16 solo exhibitions in various parts of the world including London, Ottawa and Mexico City. The Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, United Society of Artists, Fine Art Society, Foyles Art Gallery and Alpine Club all showed his work. He also wrote and illustrated articles for Sphere magazine, producing over 600 monochrome drawings for the publication. This led him to illustrate four books for children, all set in the Amazonian countryside. The artist died in Cirencester, Gloucestershire.
