A finely executed early 19th century oil depicting a day's catch of game placed before a wicker box. The artist shows a keen eye for texture in the contrast, sharp shadows and the soft down of the birds' feathers. The dark, rich palette brings a serious element to the composition, creating a moody, atmospheric scene. Signed and dated to the lower right corner. Condition
There are some light marks to the surface of the painting and small areas of light craquelure. A small, dark scuff to the bottom centre measuring at 5cm. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration. There is light wear to the frame.
