Collection Information
From a fine collection of French Empire Period Drawings we acquired. The name Sarah Solly appears twice (once on a drawing dated 1810 by a child) which makes it quite likely they were either from a collection owned by her father Edward Solly ( 1776-1884, a famous British merchant and art collector living mostly in Berlin) or drawn by Sarah Solly herself. If drawn by her it makes for a fascinating chronology of her work starting as a child in 1810 and progressing to much finer pieces around 1830. For the full collection see here. A number are on watermarked Whatman's paper dated between 1827-1830. They have been very well looked after and are in very fine condition with little to no foxing or discolouration.
