Description

A colourful traditional Japanese woodblock showing a flamboyantly dressed kabuki actor playing the role of a samurai under an Autumnal tree. The patterns and colours of the figures costume are intense and finely detailed. The ground is a silver metallic ink which dates this print as being pre 1910 (only after which was metallic ink used in large areas like this.). The print has been inscribed with traditional kanji.

The painting has been presented in a black card mount and A gilt effect glazed frame with beaded strap-work and a delicately ornamented inner window.

Unsigned. On wove.
