20th Century Japanese Woodblock - Flamboyant Kabuki
Description
A colourful traditional Japanese woodblock showing a flamboyantly dressed kabuki actor playing the role of a samurai under an Autumnal tree. The patterns and colours of the figures costume are intense and finely detailed. The ground is a silver metallic ink which dates this print as being pre 1910 (only after which was metallic ink used in large areas like this.). The print has been inscribed with traditional kanji.
The painting has been presented in a black card mount and A gilt effect glazed frame with beaded strap-work and a delicately ornamented inner window.
Unsigned. On wove.Condition
The print itself is in remarkably good condition. The black card mount has some dirtying, a crease to the top right are and a tape mark on the left side. The frame has losses to three corners and some scuffing to the gilt.
