A fine Victorian portrait of an austere looking matron in black with a lace cap and collar. The painting is unsigned and presented in a handsome, original 19th Century gilt carved frame with laurel molding and an ornately carved cove. The gilt still retains much of its original lustre. On canvas.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is some craquelure to the surface. Inspection under UV light reveals minor restoration. The frame has some areas of restoration.
