This charming 19th century genre scene depicts a family of three gathered around their infant’s crib as a fortune teller leans over, reading the child’s future. Warm light spills across the room, casting gentle shadows, whilst the parents watch in anticipation. Their curious dog barks at the fortune teller’s heels, adding a touch of playful chaos scene. Unsigned. Beautifully presented in a gilt frame with egg and dart pattern to the inner. Listed alongside a companion piece (SV888). On canvas on stretchers.Condition
Discolouration to the varnish. Craquelure and abrasions throughout. Notable abrasions to the lower right. Inspection under UV light reveals areas of restoration.
