19th Century Oil - Sheep Grazing on a Hillside

Description

Sheep graze on a grassy hillside in this idyllic nineteenth-century landscape. Wildflowers dot the rugged track, which disappears over the hill before re-emerging amongst the dense tree cover in the expansive landscape that opens out beyond. The scene has been rendered with remarkable skill and fine detail, particularly in the foreground. The work is monogrammed to the lower right, and is well presented in a gilt frame. On canvas.

Condition

Light surface discolouration throughout including yellowing to the varnish layer. One tear to the canvas, and inspection under UV light reveals some small areas of overpainting. Minor wear to the frame. The artwork is in very good condition for its age.
