A soft ground etching of Paul Sandby, an English map-maker turned landscape painter in watercolours, who, along with his older brother Thomas, became one of the founding members of the Royal Academy in 1768. Inscribed on the reverse c.1770, which possibly refers to the date of the original sketch. We believe this etching to be of a later date. On wove.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and foxing. With some mount burn. Plate line is still clearly visible.
