Original 19th Century Other antique wooden boxes. Ann exceptional piece. A done top, brass bound coromandel wood ladies dressing case dating from the mid 19th century. The interior is beautifully fitted out with cut glass bottles. Everything was, I think, originally silver plated but now it just shows as copper. There are two drawers, both spring loaded which open once the interior has been unlocked. The key works the original lock. One of the short lidded bottles is a replacement - all the other glass and all the lids appear to be original. The scratches on the front are in the polish only - the coromandel veneer is excellent with a couple of small areas missing as shown, and some of the brass stringing is missing. This box is quite extraordinary, and deserves sympathetic restoration and re-polishing. I particularly like the brass roundel on the top and the escutcheon which have a distinctly oriental feel. 30 x 23 x 19 cm.
