Description

A charmingly naive early 20th Century scene in oil, showing a rural village pond with a bridge leading down to a river. Ducks waddle towards the water at the bank on the right. In the distance we see red brick buildings, including the local pub to the right, with a sign hanging outer the front reading The Crooked Billet. The name likely refers to the charmingly crooked chimney. The artist has signed illegibly and dated to the lower right. On canvas.

Condition

There is some discolouration to the varnish with age spots. There is some craquelure to the surface and a small paint loss at the upper left quadrant. Inspection under UV light reveals some areas of restoration.
