Original 18th Century Stipple Engraving. Holbein's portrait engraved by Bartolozzi, although this could be a later re-strike. "Tho. Strange Knight". A fine example of Holbein's portraiture, this is a stipple engraving by Francesco Bartolozzi R.A. (1727-1815) who named himself "Historical Engraver to his Majesty George III". Bartolozzi was one of the finest of all engravers and perfected the art of stippled engraving. In 1768 Francesco Bartolozzi was a foundation member of the Royal Academy in London. Paper watermarked with 'L. Paint'. Unsigned. On watermarked laid. Minor creasing and line of adhesive to bottom of paper outside of print from removed tape.Size
