Description

An exquisite view of a lake, likely Lake Silvaplana, surrounded by mountains in Maloja, Switzerland. A figure can be seen in a boat on the cerulean waters as clouds swirl around the mountains in the background. The foreground is filled with wildflowers and trees which cling to the rocks. Inscribed with the location and date to the lower-right edge. Unsigned. On watercolour paper laid to board.

Condition

There is some minor foxing and discolouration, visible primarily to the sky. Overall bright and in good condition for its age.

Sulis Fine Art is delighted to present a small collection of late-nineteenth century watercolours by an unknown but highly accomplished artist. The paintings depict various beautiful Alpine views, including lake scenes and rustic figures. One is dated 1877 and inscribed with a location in Switzerland.
