17th Century Oil - Portrait of a Puritan
Description
A charming 17th-century portrait of a Puritan man, his gaze direct and solemn. Unsigned. Handwritten label verso. Well presented in a decorative gilt frame. On canvas laid to panel.Condition
Discolouration to the surface. Fine craquelure and light abrasions throughout. Inspection under UV light reveals considerable overpainting. Historic woodworm damage to the reverse of the panel, however, this has now been treated and the wood is pest-free. Overall, the artwork remains in good condition for its age. Wear to the frame, including scuffs, indentations and losses.
