A still life watercolour study by James Hardy II, featuring dead game, a basket of vegetables, and a shotgun cartridge. Handsomely presented in a complimentary gold and red frame with an arched washline mount. Inscribed with the artist's name to the mount. Unsigned. On watercolour paper.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age, including some discolouration and foxing. Minor scuffs to the frame. Small amount of debris behind the glass.

Artist Biography

James Hardy II was a painter of rustic landscapes and hunting scenes. He specialised in sporting scenes depicting dogs and game, often set in highland scenery. He painted both in oil and watercolour and exhibited regularly, including at the Royal Academy, the British Institution, and the New Watercolour Society.
