William Say - Original 1820 Mezzotint. After a painting by James Holmes. Published in London February 1st 1820 by James Holmes in London. We recently acquired a number of fine Mezzotints previously owned by Chris Lennox-Boyd, owner of the finest collection of British Mezzotints in private hands. Signed in plate. On laid. Age toning, with some tears and losses to edges.

William Say (1768 - 1834) Mezzotint engraver of portraits and historical, genre and decorative subjects after his contemporaries and Old Master Painters. Born near Norwich, he came to London at the age of Twenty and was apprenticed to J. Ward. In 1807 he was appointed engraver to the Duke of York.
