A fine early 20th century watercolour painting with gouache details by the artist William Henry Sweet. The scene depicts a river scene with a small town. Signed to the lower left-hand corner. Listings by William Henry Sweet often appear as Walter Henry Sweet. Well-presented in a golden card mount and in an ornate gilt effect frame. On watercolour paper.


The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and very light foxing. Minor scuffs and Marks to the frame.

Artist Biography

Little-known painter and etcher of street scenes, sea pieces and illustrator who studied at Exeter School of Art under John Shapland. After service in World War I, Sweet relocated to Dundee where he was employed as a commercial illustrator for Valentine and Sons.
