William Edward Croxford (1852-1926) - 1906 Watercolour, Rural English Landscape

A fine early 20th century watercolour from well listed and collected artist William Edward Croxford (1852-1926). Croxford was predominantly a painter of coastal scenes and fishermen, however he is also known for his quintessential English countryside studies, which often feature delicately painted figures approaching the viewer. This fine landscape study painted in autumnal tones, depicts a young woman walking along a river, with a horse and cart in the background. Fine touches of white gouache pick out the light and draw the viewer into Croxford's' composition. The piece is well presented in a gilt frame, with the original 'Boots Picture Framing' sticker visible on the reverse. The frame is finished with beading detail and leaf pattern. Signed and dated. On wove.

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and very minor foxing. The frame has a few marks, and minor losses to the edges and corners. However these have been partially restored to a high standard. Generally the condition is very good.
