A charming watercolour study by listed British artist Walter Herbert Allcott (1880-1951). Allcott's impressionistic style and subtle colour palette lends itself well to this atmospheric subject matter. Well presented in a gilt mount and simple gilt effect frame. Signed and dated. On watercolour paper.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There are some light foxing spots most visible to the sky area and losses to the frame, notably to the upper left corner.

Artist Biography
Painter, born Ladywood, Birmingham, he attended Birmingham School of Art, 1897-1901. After World War I he settled at Chipping Campden in Gloucestershire where he painted landscapes in tempera, watercolour and pastel. He visited and painted all the principal Italian cities during the early 1920’s and also travelled in Spain and Majorca. His work was shown at the RA and RI and was elected RWA in 1920 and RBSA the following year and he also exhibited at FAS. He taught in local authority schools and was art instructor, 1945-46, to the Women's Royal Naval Service. Examples of his work are held in Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and in the collection of University of Birmingham.
