Thomas Spinks (act. 1872-1910) - Very Fine 1901 Oil, A Peaceful Landscape
DescriptionA very fine oil painting depicting a peaceful autumnal landscape, with a tree lined path by a river and mountains beyond, by the well listed English landscape artist Thomas Spinks (active 1872-1910). The painting is well presented in a beautiful ornate gilt frame. There is plaque along the lower margin of the frame with the title and artist name inscribed. This painting has been signed and dated to the lower right corner. Signed and dated. On canvas on stretchers.
Overall this picture is in very good condition for its age. There is scattered craquelure mainly to the top half the picture but the paint layer is stable. Inspection under UV light does not reveal any restoration. There are some minor losses and cracks to the frame moulding. There is a significant loss to the moulding in the lower left corner as shown in photos.

Spinks was a Landscape painter who produced works of a similar style to those of B.W. Leader and W.H. Mander. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and Suffolk Street, Walker Gallery Liverpool and Manchester City Art Gallery between 1872 and 1907.
