Samuel Dean (fl.1895-1938) - Fine Early 20th Century Oil, Conwy, North Wales
Description
A large and well presented early 20th century oil by the British artist Samuel Dean (fl.1895-1938). Here the artist has created a picturesque, impressionistic landscape, completed in the autumnal shades of late summer. Samuel Dean was known to have exhibited in the first part of the 20th Century, and this highly bucolic landscape is typical of the changing artistic taste of the period. Dean has used layers of oil applied with a palette knife to create a sense of movement and depth within the composition. Dean was known to paint landscapes in North Wales near Conwy. His pastoral scenes are similarly detailed, with expressive touches and a lifelike richness. Signed. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
In very good condition overall, for a picture of this age. Some light surface discolouration, and several tears to the canvas that have been professionally restored. Some scuffing to the edges of the canvas.
