DescriptionAn exquisite contemporary watercolour from well listed artist Rowena Elizabeth Bush of the Hluhluwe Game Reserve in South Africa. Wonderfully depicted by the artist, this scene captures the grassy landscape of the eastern cape with its expressive, quick marks and washes of colour. Bush was an honorary fellow of the watercolour society of South Africa. Inscribed on the reverse with the location. Well presented in a double card mount and wooden frame with gilt detail. Signed. On wove.

Rowena Elizabeth Bush was born in Ceylon (modern day Sri Lanka) in 1917. Her father was a tea planter and at the age of 7 she returned with her family to England. At the age of 16, she left school and attended Art School in Bristol, moving onto the London School of Interior design three years later. After moving to Tanzania, in the late 1930's, Bush fled to Kenya just before the outbreak of WWII, and after three years, she left Kenya to get married. Bush retired to Durban, South Africa with her husband, where she remained until her death in 1998.
