A very fine signed oil painting by listed Scottish artist Robert Russell Macnee (1866-1952). Depicts farmworkers gathering potatoes in a field. Signed in the lower left and presented in a white stained wooden frame. Titled on the reverse. Signed. On panel.


In fine condition. Inspection under UV light reveals no sign of restoration.

Artist Biography

Robert Russell MacNee (1880-1952) was a landscape and genre artist born in Milngavie, Scotland. He studied at Glasgow School of Art and is best known for his sunny farmyard and cottage scenes. His style is impressionistic and he is able to create a quality of light through a subtle palette and light brushwork that imbues his paintings an idyllic charm. MacNee is Royal Academy exhibited and he also exhibited at the Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, the Royal Scottish Academy and in Paris.
