This beautiful illustration depicts Goddess Lakshmi the Hindu goddess of wealth, fortune and prosperity. The lotus flowers she holds and the two elephants to her sides traditionally represent work and knowledge in Hindu iconography. The artwork was possibly originates from a series of illustrations Gryspeerdt produced for a children's book of stories from India. Unsigned. On wove.

Artist Biography

Born in Gloucestershire , Rebecca Gryspeerdt trained at Bath Academy of Art, where she specialised in Illustration. Rebecca has had several picture books published including 'Traditional Stories from the Amazon' and has illustrated many educational books for children.
