A fine pastel study showing an African elephant by British artist Raymond John Vandenbergh (b.1889). The wildlife artist has beautifully captured the character and gentle nature of the elephant. Well presented in a card mount and simple metal frame. With an inscribed exhibition label on the reverse with additional biographical details. Signed. On wove.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is a minor loss to the lower right edge and light surface dirt and creasing to the edges of the page.

Artist Biography
Raymond John Vandenbergh (b.1889) was a painter of animals, portraits and landscapes in oil, pastel and watercolour. Vandenbergh initially attended the Hornsey School of Art and later received instruction under the renowned animal and wildlife painter, Arthur Wardle.
Vandenbergh gained much success as a wildlife painter going on to exhibit his paintings at the Royal Academy and at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.
