Ornately Framed 19th Century Oil - Girl Holding a Parasol
DescriptionA fine late Victorian oil of a young girl with parasol. With wonderful detail and colour, the artist has captured the angelic expression of this young child. She has been dressed in fine, fashionable clothes of the late 19th century, with her ornately trimmed jacket and pink parasol, we can assume this child was from the upper classes of society. The artist has delicately painted her face with fine brush work, the sensitive handling of tone perfectly captures the essence of the sitter. Well presented in an ornate gilt frame with leaf detailing. Signed indistinctly, On board.
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is a small hole to the canvas at the lower right, which is partially hidden by the frame. A few other minor marks are also visible to the right edge of the canvas. Surface marks are also visible. Inspection under UV light reveals some areas of overpainting to the girls face, however this is very minor. Marks and losses are also visible to the frame, especially at the corners.
