An extremely fine and beautifully painted study of a hermit (or anchorite) at prayer in his cave dwelling. Unsigned. On wove.


Very minor surface marks to the dark passages of paint, but overall the appearance is excellent.

Collection Information

From a 19th century album of very fine Victorian watercolours and graphite drawings by members of the Buckley family, who were an artistic Irish family originally from Cork. Featuring works by Charles Frederick Buckley (1812-1869), John Edmund Buckley (1820-1884), W. R Buckley and others. An original inscription in the album reads 'Mrs Holdernesse - the gift of her affectionate brother C F Buckley.
