An atmospheric view over the dramatic Normandy coastline in Granville, France, by the listed British artist Michael Crawley. His distinct style is evident, through the balance between fine detail in the boat and loose abstracted features in the cliffs and sky. A united palette has allowed the artist to highlight particular elements, giving a masterly and pronounced sense of depth.
Well presented in a card mount and a simple wooden frame with gilt effect detailing. Signed in the lower right hand corner with an inscription and gallery label on reverse, as shown.Signed and incsribed on the reverse. On watercolour paper.
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some minor discolouration. Very minor scuffed edges on the frame. Generally in good condition.

20th Century artist Michael Crawley paints in both oils and watercolours, principally landscapes of Derbyshire, although he has painted scenes in New York, Italy and France and also locomotives.
He is well documented as working for 'Royal Crown Derby' and his designs have appeared frequently on their products. He is one of the artists who have been noted for their work in the Derby Porcelain International Society. Crawley often used his own landscapes and flower paintings as designs on porcelain. During his time at Royal Crown Derby he was responsible for decorating a series of dinner plates and a cream jug presented to HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother on the occasion of her visit to the Royal Crown Derby factory in 1971. In 1974 he painted six plates with Derbyshire scenes which were presented to HRH Princess Anne when she visited Royal Crown Derby.
