Mary Ann Baines - Small Original 19th Century Watercolour. Unsigned. On wove. Condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. Surface dirt present.

Mary Ann Baines was married to William Mortimer Baines, son of Hewley Mortimer Baines. They married in New Zealand where William bought land and invested in saw milling and gold mining. He was summoned back to Bell Hall as the new heir after the death of his brother, Henry. Arriving in England, Mary Ann, William and their eight children lived at Hemingborough Hall, until William inherited Bell Hall when his father died in 1874.

Part of a collection of watercolours, drawings and engravings by, and from the archives of, the Baines Family of Bell Hall, Naburn. Many have been signed by Mary Baines, Hewley John Baines, Hewley Mortimer Baines, or other members of the Baines family.
