Marcus Adams (1875-1959) - Original Mid 20th Century Graphite Drawing. A graphite landscape depicting St Ouens Bay with another coastal view. From a collection of primarily landscape drawings by the artist. Unsigned. Condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is a small abrasion in the lower left quadrant.Marcus Adams (1875-1959) was born in Reading and attended Reading Art College where he began to develop his skills as a draftsman and designer. In 1892 he was apprenticed at his father’s photography studio, first preparing negatives and then proofing and retouching. Whilst he was starting to gain a reputation for the photographic portraits for which he would become famous, he continued his artistic education by studying in Paris and travelling to Switzerland, North Africa and beauty spots around England.Size

Collection Information
The Adams family were three generations of artists and photographers based in Reading. The family business began with Walton Adams (1842-1934) and in this collection we are pleased to introduce to you artworks by his sons Marcus Adams (1875-1959) and Chris Adams (1867-1960), his grandson Gilbert Adams (1906-1996), and Gilbert’s wife Rosalind Adams (née Thuillier, 1939-2015). Many works in the collection are signed and most are in excellent condition.
