Item Sold

Marcus Adams (1875-1959) - Original 1925 Graphite Drawing. Titled and dated in lower left. Purchased in a collection of landscape drawings by the artist. Unsigned. Condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and age toning, and with a tear to upper right corner of page, although this does not interfere with image itself.

Marcus Adams (1875-1959) was born in Reading and attended Reading Art College where he began to develop his skills as a draftsman and designer. In 1892 he was apprenticed at his father’s photography studio, first preparing negatives and then proofing and retouching. Whilst he was starting to gain a reputation for the photographic portraits for which he would become famous, he continued his artistic education by studying in Paris and travelling to Switzerland, North Africa and beauty spots around England.
