M. Rumsey - Very Fine Early 20th Century Oil, The Little Flower Seller
DescriptionAn excellent early 20th century oil depicting a young girl selling a basket of flowers, with a dog by her side. This emotive painting captures the sadness in the young girl's eyes, and the harsh conditions that poor families had to face. There are two separate inscriptions on the reverse which read 'M. Rumsey', but we have been unable to find further information on this artist. There is also a 'Reeves & Sons' canvas stamp on the reverse which dates to 1911. The painting is presented in a gilt slip. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.
This painted was previously cleaned and revarnished in 1997. Specific details of this can be found on the pencil inscription on the canvas stretcher. Overall, the painting is in very good condition. Some marks, scuffing and paint loss presented to the gilt slip.
