Leopold Boussery - Early 20th Century Oil, Resurrection of Christ
DescriptionA vivid depiction of the Resurrection of Christ by the Belgian artist Leopold Boussery, in oil on canvas. In the work, Mary Magdalene can be seen in the foreground traditionally depicted with a jar or small pot, with the figure of Christ behind, and the image of a halo suggested in the positioning of the rising sun. Boussery worked on religious subjects as well as church art restorations from the late 19th Century to the first part of the 20th Century. Signed 'L. Boussery' to the lower left, as shown. Signed. On canvas on stretchers.
In fine condition. Inspection under UV light reveals some restoration, particularly along the bottom edge. There is also a medium sized closed tear that has been restored, near the left edge of the canvas.
