A pair of coastal scenes with figures at Polperro, Cornwall, by the artist Julie Brett (1939-2010). Entitled 'Gathering Mussels' and 'The New Boat', the artist has used a light palette and a delicate approach to depicting figures on the beach and in rock pools. Both are well-presented in oval mounts and thin light wood frames, as shown. Signed and incsribed on the reverse. On wove.

Artist Biography

Born in East Anglia, Julie Brett (1939-2010) trained at the Colchester School of Art. She moved to Cornwall in the 1980's, opening a gallery with her husband, Colin. Later, they set up their home and Julie’s studio in two granite barns perched high above the tidal reaches of the River Fowey. A keen admirer of the Newlyn School, Julie particularly loved the pastel work of Elizabeth Adela Forbes.
