Julie Brett - A Pair of 1989 Watercolours, Coastal Scenes at Polperro, Cornwall

A pair of coastal scenes with figures at Polperro, Cornwall, by the artist Julie Brett (1939-2010). Entitled 'Gathering Mussels' and 'The New Boat', the artist has used a light palette and a delicate approach to depicting figures on the beach and in rock pools. Both are well-presented in oval mounts and thin light wood frames, as shown. Signed and incsribed on the reverse. On wove.

In fine condition.

Artist Biography

Born in East Anglia, Julie Brett (1939-2010) trained at the Colchester School of Art. She moved to Cornwall in the 1980's, opening a gallery with her husband, Colin. Later, they set up their home and Julie’s studio in two granite barns perched high above the tidal reaches of the River Fowey. A keen admirer of the Newlyn School, Julie particularly loved the pastel work of Elizabeth Adela Forbes.
