John Lawrence was born in Kent and first made a name for himself in the 1960s designing various advertisement campaigns for well known brands. His artwork appeared as weekly full page adverts in many national newspapers. Interestingly, Lawrence was the illustrator of the original 'Big Ben' logo that appears on HP Sauce – an adaptation of which can still be seen on sauce bottles today.
In later life Lawrence decided to focus on his oil and watercolour painting and under the tuition of the artist Eddie Franklin, Lawrence was encouraged to develop his painting style. Lawrence is best known for his marine scenes along with landscapes and townscapes in his vibrant and expressive style.
Lawrence paints full time and his work features in international collections.
