DescriptionA pair of signed original limited edition prints by the artist John Blockley (1921-2002), depicting two Gloucestershire market towns; Cirencester and Stow on the Wold. Both are signed and inscribed with a further artist label on reverse, as shown. Both are well presented in a card mount and a simple gilt effect frame. Signed and inscribed. On wove.
The condition of the prints are in fine condition with some very minor surface dirt underneath the glazing. There are some surface scuffs to each frame. Generally in good condition.

Painter, born in Knighton, Radnorshire. After working at a variety of jobs to support his painting, he joined the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority, for which he travelled and painted widely. In 1972 he resigned to focus on his own work. He was best known for his paintings of Wales and the Pennines. He was the author of several books on watercolour painting and as well as exhibiting widely in Britain and abroad, he ran his own gallery in Stow-on-the-Wold, Gloucestershire. He was elected RI in 1968 but resigned in 1984 to be eligible for election to the RWS and was also a member of the New English Art Club and of the Royal West of England Academy and exhibited at the Bath Society of Artists. He exhibited at the RA, RCamA, Albany Gallery, Cardiff, Tib Lane Gallery, Manchester, Ashbarn Gallery, Petersfield and the Chagford Gallery, Devon. There is a painting by Blockley in the permanent collection of the RWA.
