James Longueville PS, RBSA - 20th Century Pastel, Low Tide, The Dee Estuary
A fine pastel seascape by well listed artist James Longueville. The artist has captured the Dee Estuary which originates near Shotton, however the river soon swells to be several miles wide and forms the boundary between the Wirral Peninsula in north-west England and Flintshire in north-east Wales.
Longueville is known for his continental harbour scenes, however many consider his depictions of the British coast to be his most successful work. This particular composition has been finely worked, with expressive mark making and layers of pastel used to create a depth and perspective within the scene.
Elected a member of the Pastel Society in 1983 and the Royal Society of British Artists in 1989, James has exhibited regularly with the Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Society of Oil Painters, the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, the Pastel Society and many galleries at home and abroad. His work can be found in both private and public collections.
