James Lawson Stewart (British 1829-1911) watercolour inscribed on back "The mermaid Inn - Sussex".
James Lawson Stewart trained as an architect however he later became well known as a watercolour painter. His paintings show clear signs of his background in architecture with strong attention to detail. Stewart travelled throughout the United Kingdom painting village scenes and buildings. He exhibited at the Walker Gallery, Liverpool, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, The Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British Artists and Suffolk Street.
Excellent condition. Nicely mounted and framed.
