A lovely watercolour painting with gouache by the artist James Lindsey Bird, depicting a bridge over the river Weaver. Signed and dated to the lower right-hand corner. Title and artist's name inscribed on the reverse. On watercolour paper.


The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and minor surface marks.

Artist Biography

James Lindsey Bird began his career by winning an artist scholarship to Italy, an experience which became highly influential on Lindsey's preferred subjects and style. Settling in North Yorkshire fishing port of Whitby, his preoccupation with the coastal scenery is apparent throughout his works from the forties period onwards. Lindsey also became highly regarded as a portrait painter completing various high level commissions, including a portrait of the Queen Mother in the drawing room at Clarence House.
