Gustaaf van Loon (1912-1980) - Fine Mid 20th Century Oil, Snow Drifts

Item Sold

A evocative and atmospheric work in oil, by the Belgian artist Gustaaf van Loon (1912-1980). Loon has portrayed this winter landscape with great fervour, depicting figures battling the elements while walking towards a distant village. Broad brushwork evokes a sense of movement and drama in the scene, despite a calm and naturalistic palette.

Handsomely presented in a substantial gilt wooden frame with egg and dart moulding, fluted cove, bay leaf and berry running pattern and outer beading. With gilt slip.

Signed. On board.

In very good condition overall, for a picture of this age. There is some light surface dirt and discolouration. The frame has some small losses to the beading along the top edge, and to the lower left corner. Some small areas of restoration to the frame.

21.1 x 29.8cm (8.3" x 11.7")
Framed Size: 38.8 x 47.6cm (15.3" x 18.7")
